This holiday season, many of us (myself included!) will spend A LOT time in our kitchens. When you have a kitchen that not only looks beautiful, but also functions well, it can make all the difference. Suddenly, all those hours spent chopping, mixing, baking and prepping feel downright enjoyable.
With help from Duddy Construction, a Wynnewood family of four will celebrate this holiday season in the kitchen of their dreams.
The family’s original kitchen felt dark, cramped and isolated from the rest of the home. They wanted their new kitchen to be a light and airy gathering place with plenty of storage and a family-friendly layout. Rather than add square footage, they created the illusion of more space by raising ceilings, removing walls and enlarging openings to adjacent rooms. The renovation took about eight weeks to complete.
Enlarging the doorway between the kitchen and dining room creates a better flow and gives the home a more open, spacious feel.
The family opted for high-end materials and finishes, like Chiron marble countertops and an Arabescato Carrara marble backsplash. New hardwood flooring was installed throughout. The built-in desk does double duty as a homework station for the kids and a home office for mom. They selected a a soft gray color for the desk cabinetry and kitchen island.
I love how the cabinet fixtures complement the handles of the extra-large refrigerator. While oversize appliances are appealing for obvious reasons, they can overpower a space. Placing the refrigerator in a corner, next to larger cabinet doors helps balance the proportions.
A double wall oven comes in handy when hosting holiday gatherings!
So does a built-in wine fridge!
Skylights installed above the island infuse plenty of natural light into the space.
Multiple seating areas give the kitchen added versatility and more “hang out” options for family members.
A hidden television above the stove keeps the kids captivated while mom cooks.
“This kitchen truly reflects our personal style. We never want to leave it!” the homeowners told me. They also appreciated Patrick Duddy’s guidance and expertise. “Patrick helped with every step of the process, from planning and design to construction and finish work, and he was always available to address any questions or concerns. His team worked hard every day, paid close attention to detail and remained flexible throughout. Duddy Construction is the best general contractor we’ve ever worked with!”
