Marie Stark works as a decorator/interior designer for Main Line Haven. Here she gives us her advice on making a good first impression…. in the entry of your home!
What do you think is the biggest challenge for creating a space that looks good and also functions well?
The entry of a home can look good and also function well. The challenge is to identify what the space will be used for and what is needed for it to function properly. “A place for everything, everything in its place.” Think storage boxes, baskets, shoe racks, and hooks. All of these help with both organization and the function of a space.
How can we have a space function well and also have a good design?
The good news is there are so many options in home design right now. It’s easy to have a stylish space that can also make a great first impression as seen here from this photo from Pinterest.
This console is not only pretty, but it makes a statement in this entry. The baskets placed below are a great space for additional storage.
What is one piece of advice you would give a client who is trying to have a space function better?
Think about using multipurpose furniture in your home. It will give you the look you are trying to achieve and also the storage you need.
This bench offers many purposes in the entry of a home. It has storage baskets, a shelf for shoes or other items, and even a place to sit!
Limited on space? Not a problem! These hooks are functional and don’t take up any additional space. Remember to mount some hooks higher for the adults and lower for the little ones.
Look how well one wall can function!
This is a brilliant Idea! Turn your existing closet into functional mudroom space.
Don’t have a mudroom? Look at the use of space in these two garage mudrooms. With some simple changes to the area, the space begins to functions at its best!
Any current trends you are loving right now?
I love bright geometric rugs and painted cabinetry.
Don’t forget about the “wow factor” when creating the space. Have fun with the design! Adding a stylish light fixture, a bright geometric rug and painted cabinetry will energize the space.
