At times, the village has been called Cocheltown, Reeseville, Glassley and Gaysville. The town received its present name in 1877 during the celebration of its centennial when one of the Welsh settlers proposed to name the village after the Berwyn Hills overlooking the Valley of the Dee River in Denbighshire, Wales. Today Berwyn is one of the westernmost stops along Septa’s Main Line route and features a small downtown with good restaurants. Local favorites are Clay’s Bakery, Sweet Jazmines Bakery and Handel’s ice cream. Most of Berwyn is located within Tredyffrin/Easttown Township in Chester County, sending those students to Conestoga High School. Parts of Berwyn are located within Willistown Township in Chester County and are serviced by the Great Valley School District. There is also a piece of Berwyn within Marple Newtown Township in Delaware County. David Eisenhower and Julie Nixon Eisenhower live in Berwyn.
